Kentucky Wildcats Set Historically Embarrassing Stat Following Horrid Start to the Season

The Kentucky Wildcats are historically one of the best NCAA Division I teams, but their standard has dipped to an all-time low in the ongoing college basketball season. The Lexington based college program has only pulled off a single victory so far, and things look bleak for them at the moment.
Kentucky has got off to one of the worst starts in its long-standing history. The team came into the 2021 season as the tenth best team in the country but has now dropped out of the Top 25 rankings due to a string of poor performances.
Kentucky Wildcats record an embarrassing stat under John Calipari

Renowned coach John Calipari has been spearheading Kentucky’s basketball program since 2009. Calipari has earned several accolades and set multiple records with the team besides winning the National Championship in 2012.
But never has the team started off the season with a 1-5 record under the former NBA coach. In fact, the Wildcats’ current record is the worst start in almost sixty years!

Yes, the Kentucky Wildcats haven’t suffered a worse start to a campaign in their recent history. They’ve just won a single game from six attempts, and one would have to go back to the 1926-27 season to witness the team perform on such a sub-par level.

Kentucky’s sole victory came against Morehead State as they won 81-45 in their opening fixture. Things quickly went south for the eight-time National champions and they’re yet to recover from the hit.
The Wildcats added to their misery with a double-digit loss to UNC
The Kentucky Wildcats took on the University of North Carolina in their most recent fixture and suffered a loss. It the first time that the Wildcats have lost five straight games under John Calipari, who needs to fix things real quick to earn back the lost reputation.

Kentucky’s offense seems to be lacking quality, and it was visibly evident against UNC. They allowed North Carolina to overcome a deficit and to add to it, conceded 16 turnovers throughout the game.
“You’re talking about guys that are going through stuff that’s really, really hard for them — to take responsibility, to own their performance, to accept where they are on the team,” Calipari said after the loss.

A few Wildcats players slipped away from being confronted by the media after losing against UNC. The team needs to get their mindset back to the positive side of things and ensure the camaraderie should never diminish from the locker room.
