Brock Purdy is not your typical QB. He was not drafted in the first round, he was not a star in college, and he was not even considered a top prospect for the 2022 NFL Draft. But the San Francisco 49ers found a hidden gem, and he is now second on the list of the most productive season ever in NFL history. Does this feat take him closer to the MVP accolade?

At the 2022 NFL Draft, Purdy was ‘Mr. Irrelevant’ and was the last pick in that year’s draft. But he has shown his class and commitment, which has him on the top of the most productive season for a QB. Just behind the great Peyton Manning and ahead of Aaron Rodgers.

Brock Purdy is overtaking legends

Adjusted yards per attempt is considered more impactful than yards per attempt. Since AY/A takes into account, touchdowns scored as well as interceptions given. And in that metric, Peyton Manning’s 2004 season with the Colts is the most productive ever by a QB. His tally is 9.8 for that season. Aaron Rodgers was second for many years thanks to his 2011 season with the Packers with an A/YA of 9.4. Now Purdy has overtaken that spot.

With an A/YA of 9.6 this season, the 23-year-old is currently 2nd place on the list. This metric just exemplified the great season that Purdy and the 49ers have been having.

The 49ers with a record of 11-3 have already booked the top spot in the playoffs from their conference, the NFC. This will give them advantages in the postseason, such as bye week and the coveted home-field advantage. But will the 49ers play in the postseason with the MVP holder in their team as well?

MVP glory: Purdy ready to take over

In 2004, at the back of 9.8 A/YA, Manning won the MVP record for the second time. Such was the case with A-Rod as well in 2011, with an A/YA of 9.4. Since Purdy is ahead of Rodgers in that regard, it should not come as a surprise that the QB is leading in the MVP race.

Brock Purdy also leads other QBs in the league in terms of traditional stats as well. He is at pole position in TDs scored at 29, no. 1 at yards per attempt with 9.9, and has the lowest number of interceptions as well.
