Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders may be sitting third on the depth chart, but his father, Deion Sanders, hasn’t lost faith. Coach Prime believes his son can climb into the starting role this season. And he believes that the only way to grow is by getting snaps on the field. Now, for Shedeur, the future in Cleveland might have several questions, but one thing is clear that he feels ready for the job.

“That’s not my place to answer,” Sanders said when asked about his father’s stance. “But I know if you see the quarterback play in the league right now, I know I’m capable of doing better than that,” he shared.
While Sanders may not have taken direct aim at quarterback Joe Flacco, the starting QB’s four interceptions in the first three games this season have raised doubts. The Browns secured a 13-10 win over the Green Bay Packers, but a tougher test looms against the Detroit Lions.

Lions’ offensive coordinator John Morton earlier took a dig at the Browns’ defense and said, “I don’t think they’ve seen a running game like ours yet.” In response, Browns defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz defended by claiming that the Browns have faced stronger teams like the Cincinnati Bengals and the Packers. But it won’t be an easy ride.

And if Flacco continues to struggle, Coach Kevin Stefanski might be forced to make a tough decision, which is to bench the veteran QB. This will lift rookie Dillon Gabriel as the starter. It seems unlikely for Sanders to get the job unless the backup QB suffers an injury or underperforms.
The two had noticeable differences in their preseason performances. Sanders completed 58.6% of his passes for 152 yards, throwing two touchdowns with no interceptions, though he took seven sacks. Gabriel had a higher completion rate at 67.6%, throwing for 272 yards with one touchdown and one interception, but only rushed for a single yard on two attempts and was sacked twice. Ultimately, Gabriel earned the QB2 job over Sanders.
Nevertheless, Sanders has faith in him. “Based on the situation, if things happen, if things pan out where I play, then I’ll be out there and I’ll be ready to play. I’m ready to play right now,” he said. However, looking back, he seemed to have a doubt.

Shedeur Sanders believes his fate would have been different on a different team
Sanders admitted that he would be playing right now if he were on a different team. “It’s obvious a lot of teams would be playing me, but that’s not in God’s plan right now,” he said. But he seems to have made peace with it. Like his father, he’s holding tight to hope and God’s plan.
“And some things happen for a reason, and I’m a true believer in that. And whatever his plan for me is I believe in it. So I don’t be stressed or feel bad that I’m in the situation I’m in right now. It’s just funny to me and I just enjoy it,” Sanders, who is the part-time scout-team quarterback, said.

Even Hall of Fame running back Eric Dickerson claimed that the Browns should get rid of Sanders so the young QB can play in his rookie year for a different team just a few days ago. Again, that might be unlikely since Sanders was kept on the roster for depth. So, whatever the future holds for him, young Sanders has continued to put in the work. And Coach Prime expects no less from his son.
Coach Prime assured that Sanders isn’t wasting his time thinking of the past. “He was never raised to be disrespectful or unprepared,” Coach Prime said. “There’s no way that you can start all four years and do what you did and accomplish what you accomplished and not be prepared.”

For now, Sanders’ future may hinge on how Flacco performs in Week 4 and if Gabriel can keep up.
