Thursday has finally brought some good news for 6x Super Bowl Champions, the Pittsburgh Steelers. Their defensive weapon, tackle Cam Heyward, had suffered a concussion in the game against the Indianapolis Colts on Saturday. The 7-6 Steelers had lost 30-13 to the Colts who also had the same record.

When Heyward went down in the game, he immediately sprang up and continued playing, giving no impression that he had been this seriously injured. Hence, his being under concussion protocol came as a surprise to fans.

Senior NFL Insider, Ian Rapoport, took to X to share that Cam Heyward had cleared concussion protocol. An independent neurological consultant had given him the go-ahead for the Steelers’ next game against the Cincinnati Bengals on Christmas Eve. This comes as a relief to the tackle since he had only played in eight games this season. His year had been plagued by injuries which resulted in him seeing limited action.

Heyward was listed as a limited practice participant Tuesday and practiced fully Wednesday, per the league-mandated injury report. He is expected to address reporters following Thursday’s practice. The 34-year-old has played in 13 seasons of the NFL. This year, he missed out on six games due to a groin injury. In the eight games that he did play, he has managed to record 2 sacks and 30 tackles.

Heyward’s return will provide a boost to the Steeler’s defense

In the last week, when the Steelers lost to the Colts, they allowed 30 unanswered points. All doors are not shut for the Steelers yet, but it’s going to be a tough battle ahead. While speaking to the media Heyward said, “It’s not about your practice habits. It’s about dedicating your life to this game.”

In terms of passing yards allowed, the Steelers’ defense is in the 19th position at 225.1 yards on average, in terms of points allowed per game they are ninth at 20. With Heyward back to fortify the defense, can the Steelers hope to turn things around this late in the season? In the last three games of the regular season, they will have to face some of the toughest teams in the league. Only time will tell if they will rise up to the challenge or not.
