Jaxson Dart had been rostered as QB 2, and the 22-year-old was very supportive of starting QB Russell Wilson. Although the disastrous week-3 loss to the Chiefs created an opening for a quarterback change. During the game on Sunday, as Wilson fell apart in the second quarter, “We want Dart,” chants echoed through MetLife Stadium. The Giants are now turning to rookie Dart against the undefeated Chargers, and a former NFL player has issued a warning for him.

Pat McAfee on the PatMcAfee Show stated, “The schedule is not great to have him start. They don’t have a buy until week-14 or something like that. Then you look at his schedule and it’s division stuff, so they are gonna have to play tough teams regardless.”

Since his hiring in 2022, Daboll has had six quarterbacks start for him. Jaxson Dart might not benefit from the timing. He has played in both of the previous two games, totaling six snaps without attempting a throw. Brian Daboll gave Dart very limited playing time against the Chiefs. Three plays to be precise, out of which two only led to handing off the ball, and on the other, he ran for 3 yards. It marks a dramatic shift only four games into the season.

The optimism towards Russell’s 450 yards and 3 touchdowns against the Dallas Cowboys quickly faded, after completing only 18 of 32 passes for 160 yards, no touchdowns, two interceptions, and a 43.8 passer rating. When asked about the QB change window, Giants head coach Brian Daboll said, “We’re evaluating everything,” he said after the game. Speculation now swirls around what this means long-term. Is Jaxson Dart the new face of the franchise, or simply a temporary spark? If he delivers, the Giants may be stepping into a bold new era after Wilson’s current declining form.

Veteran’s mighty declining path leads to Rookie’s breakthrough

After the mighty 22-9 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, featuring Russell Wilson’s inconsistent performance, the bench could prove to be the last of his NFL career. “I’d be booing too, to be honest with you, in terms of not being good enough, not scoring, not finishing. I understand that. That’s the nature of it. We’ve got to be better.” Daboll said, according to ESPN.

In as many years, the ten-time Pro Bowl player has been with three different teams. He has been benched twice, the first time at the end of his 2023 two-season run with the Denver Broncos. Before once more reaching the free-agent market, Wilson joined the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2024 and threw 16 touchdowns in 11 starts.

“Yeah, there are highs and lows and always tough moments. You know, you’ve got to have thick skin. You’ve got to be able to see who you are, the player that you are, know what you’re capable of,” Wilson said.

He led a chaotic New York offense to 231 net yards in a Week 1 loss to the Washington Commanders, going 17 of 37 with 168 passing yards, no touchdowns, no interceptions, and a 59.3 rating. Wilson is a pocket passer. Dart, on the other hand, can extend plays, run the ball, and operate in zone-read concepts, which has made the offense look faster and more dynamic during practices. Starting in Week 4 against the Chargers, Jaxson Dart will look forward to establishing himself.
