The Green Bay Packers defeated the Dallas Cowboys 48-32 in the wildcard round. Now, the San Francisco 49ers are going to host the Packers for the Divisional Round. However, Brock Purdy and team already knew whom they are playing on Saturday, even before the Packers-Cowboys’ game ended.
The Niners, having secured the NFC West title, hold the number 1 seed in the NFL playoff bracket. As they are coming off a bye week, they will be facing the Packers, the team with whom they have met 9 times in the playoffs. This will be their 10th meet in the postseason, and Purdy already knew it in the third quarter of Packers’ wildcard game.

In a pregame press conference of the 49ers, the quarterback revealed the moment he and his squad realized that they are facing the Packers this time in the playoffs. Purdy said, “At the end the Cowboys were making a push and so you never know, but after they got up and then in the third quarter they were up pretty big. I was okay, I think it’s probably gonna be the team but like I said you never know.”

He continued, “The Cowboys started to come back and it was right and so you’re just watching and then you know the minute the clock said zero, it’s alright let’s go it’s gonna be the Packers so it was a great game to watch and they came out ready to play against the Cowboys and they played really well, so yeah, i guess third quarter-ish I started thinking we’re gonna play the Packers.”

Despite scoring two touchdowns in the fourth quarter, closing the gap to 48-32 with 3:25 left, the Cowboys couldn’t complete the comeback. The pivotal moment came on a fourth-and-5 at their own 41-yard line, where “stressed” Prescott’s incomplete pass to receiver Jalen Tolbert led to a turnover on downs, ending the Cowboys’ last attempt at a comeback.
