Odell Beckham Jr.’s journey with the Ravens came to an unexpectedly quiet close in the second week of March, as the team decided to part ways with the high-profile WR. Beckham’s time in Baltimore was a mixed bag in terms of on-field performance. In 2023, he managed to secure only 35 receptions, amassing 565 yards and contributing three touchdowns. This output marked his lowest in any season, where he played more than 12 games.
In the latest episode of Punch Line Podcast with Marlon Humphrey, the Cornerback Marlon Humphrey talked about his hiring prowess. He wanted to play a role in the signing of Derrick Henry, which the team refused to let him.

In a bold declaration, Marlon Humphrey claimed a pivotal role in Odell Beckham Jr.’s move to the Ravens. “I literally got Odell Beckham to the Ravens,” Humphrey stated. His guest, Patriots’ Matthew Judon, seemed skeptical from the get-go. Judon, quick to challenge Humphrey’s assertion, pointed out, “He was coming there, regardless.”

Not one to back down, Humphrey conceded, albeit slightly, acknowledging, “But I had a small percentage help,” to which Judon quipped, “They pay for it?” The CB said that he was rooting for OBJ to sign with the Ravens, and then months later, it happened! He then second-guessed himself and said, “Is there a chance?”
We may never know for sure if OBJ came to Baltimore because of Humphrey. But as to their recent signing of Derrick Henry, he was denied the chance to even try to convince him to join them instead of the Cowboys.
Humphrey felt betrayed by his GM
The Baltimore Ravens made waves in the free agency pool by securing Derrick Henry to spearhead their ground game. The signing sent ripples through the Ravens’ camp, with Henry reuniting with his old Alabama comrade, Humphrey.

In an earlier episode of the podcast, he had revealed that while he was eager to pitch in and sway Henry towards the Ravens, Humphrey was surprisingly advised to keep mum. GM Eric DeCosta aimed to keep the team’s moves under wraps. This advice left Humphrey somewhat in the dark, particularly when he casually chatted with Henry in Dallas, leaving him under the impression that Henry might want to sign with the Cowboys.
Following that, news broke of Henry’s 2-year, $16 million contract with the Ravens. This sudden turn of events left Humphrey feeling blindsided. He said, “I just couldn’t freaking… I couldn’t freaking believe it. And, uh, I mean it really felt like a slight betrayal of trust.”
