The Cleveland Browns have been stuck in quarterback purgatory for what feels like forever. Fact or fiction? Of course, it’s a fact. Honestly, after Baker Mayfield left the town, the Browns have started 8 QBs. But it seems they still can’t figure out their QB issues. Though Deshaun Watson was supposed to change all of that, the guy suffered a season-ending injury. Fast forward, if we look ahead to the NFL 2025 draft, it kinda feels like Kevin Stefanski and Co. may finally give up on Watson.

As per the recent reports, the Browns may move ahead without Watson following his season-ending injury this season. The talk of the town is, that the Cleveland team will be taking a QB with the 2nd overall pick unless they are absolutely “blown away” with a trade offer. And as far as we know, Shedeur Sanders and Cam Ward are the top two picks for the NFL 2025 draft.

So, who are the Browns planning to roll with? I mean, it’s not been that long since we heard that the Tennessee Titans are going for Ward, right? But here’s the kicker: just after this rumor was leaked, the Titans decided they would go ahead without their general manager, Ran Carthon. Since then, the Titans going for Sanders remained a mystery.

As for the Browns, now they need to wait for the Titans to do their job at the first overall pick if they still want to go for the 2nd overall pick. However, let’s not forget that the Browns GM, Andrew Berry, knows that this could be his last season as GM. That said, Berry will surely want to make a big splash in 2025. And who knows if the Cleveland team will make an expensive trade for the 1st overall pick?

But at the end of the day, we can only speculate what the Browns and Berry are planning. But one thing is assured, the head coach is eyeing to resolve his QB dilemma in the coming season.

Andrew Berry announced Deshaun Watson’s injury update

It’s been a rough season for Deshaun Watson. No wait, let’s be real: it’s the same story for the last three seasons for him. The 29-year-old QB signed a brand new 5-year contract with the Browns back in 2022. Since then, he started just in 19 games and has a track record of 9-10. Talk about an embarrassing performance for not just one but three consecutive seasons.

Not to mention the injuries that played a crucial role in his poor seasons. I mean, take this season for instance. During the week 7 showdown against the Bengals, Watson had to quit the field after suffering an Achilles tear. And just a couple of days ago, the general manager announced that Watson suffered a setback in his Achilles recovery. Talk about adding fuel to the fire. With this setback, the impact on his 2025 season remains uncertain.

If Watson remains out of the action for the next season, that will mark his third consecutive season falling short due to major injuries. That said, his injuries are bruising not just the Browns’ performance but their salary cap as well. When the Cleveland team signed him for a whopping $230 million contract, they thought might have got a solution for their QB issues. Alas, the injuries came out of the syllabus. As per the contract details, the QB will be sticking with the team for the next two years and will be getting a base salary of $46 million per year.

But the way things are shaping up, Deshaun Watson may miss out on a few games next season if not the whole. And that appears to be a major concern for the team. But hey, we still need to see what happens with that second-overall pick in the 2025 draft. If the Browns can lock that down, things could change pretty quickly. But for now, it’s all up in the air.
