Week 8 did not prove to be a fruitful one for the Pittsburgh Steelers. In fact, it’s probably a too polite way of describing things as they lost two of their most valuable assets before eventually losing the game. All within the first quarter, which the Steelers never recovered from.

First safety Minkah Fitzpatrick and then quarterback Kenny Pickett left the game with injury concerns. Two back-to-back injuries inside 15 minutes proved to be too much to handle for the Steelers. Their scoreline started trailing in the first quarter and remained the same until the final whistle stopped the play at 20-10 in favor of the Jaguars.

Kenny Pickett added to the injury list

After being tackled by a Jaguars defender, Kenny Pickett went to the ground at the end of the first half. Things did not look good as the quarterback held his right shoulder in pain. He was immediately taken to the locker room and the medical staff started examining him. Mitchell Trubisky took up his role in the second quarter.

While Pickett was spotted warming up at halftime, the hopes were soon diminished for the Steelers fans as the team ruled the QB out for the night. Pickett joined safety Minkah Fitzpatrick in the medical tent and watched the Jaguars finish their job anyway.

James Palmer took to X (formerly Twitter) to report on the incident, stating “Kenny Pickett came out of the locker room after the second half opening kick and is on the sideline throwing and trying to get loose.”

Trubisky’s 15/27 for 138 yards and one touchdown couldn’t help the Steelers as the Jaguars extended their 6-point lead to 7 by the 3rd quarter and to 10 by the 4th before finishing it.

Steelers’ season in uncertainty with Kenny Pickett out

The Steelers haven’t had a great season overall as they are sitting third in AFC North. Coming to the game, they possessed a respectable 4-2 record against two then-division toppers. But the Jaguars’ loss lands them in the middle of uncertainty as playoffs seem far away to happen. Even further with a quarterback and a safety out for potentially the next game.

The Steelers started the season hoping to improve on last season’s 9-8 record. While they still have the time to do so with 10 games in hand, the resistance has to start now. But after a 4-3 and two starting voids in the midseason, it looks like a mountain to climb for the franchise.

They next lock horns with fellow strugglers Tennessee Titans on Thursday, 2nd November. And things could certainly change there, but it’s only a possibility and neither side can guarantee a win.
