Russell Wilson and the Denver Broncos era has officially come to an end. After spending two years with the team, the Broncos have decided to release the quarterback for the next season. Things took a dark turn for Wilson when the Broncos started to pressure him to defer his injury guarantee dates and the QB decided to stand up for himself and not give into the Broncos’ demands.

Now, Wilson came out with an official statement about his release and was thankful to everyone in the Broncos organization. From his teammates to cafeteria workers, Wilson didn’t fail to acknowledge what these people meant to him and said it all in an emotional post on his Instagram. Surprisingly, he didn’t say a word about Sean Payton and the Broncos’ management, leaving the NFL world to speculate on the state of their relationship.

Per ESPN, the Denver Broncos will have $85 million in dead money for the next two years. The team has yet to answer whether they will take the majority dead money hit in 2024 or 2025. Wilson’s abrupt exit from the team has caused the biggest dead money hit in the history of the sport. Luckily for him, there are still a few teams in need of a veteran franchise quarterback.

Teams like the Pittsburgh Steelers and even the Minnesota Vikings can be Wilson’s next landing spots. The Steelers struggle with Kenny Pickett and Mason Rudolph, while Kirk Cousins gets ready to take on free agency in this off-season. One thing is for sure, Wilson still has a lot of football left in him, and as per the wave going around in the NFL with senior QBs like Joe Flacco making comebacks, it won’t be potentially hard for Wilson to land a place in a team.
