Chris Jones and L’Jarius Sneed have been instrumental in the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl win this year. Unfortunately, their contract with the Chiefs is about to end. With off-season trades approaching, the Chiefs are trying their best to retain these players. Rest assured, Andy Reid will likely do what suits the team.

The Kansas City Chiefs head coach appeared in an interview with CBS Sports and shed light on the Chiefs’ post-Super Bowl plans. One of their plans is to retain both these players in a mutually beneficial deal. Sneed’s rookie contract with the Chiefs is ending; this time, the Chiefs might give them a long-term deal.

The interviewer acknowledged the situation that Jones and Sneed are in and asked Andy Reid about the conversations in the conference room. Though Reid realizes that he and the Chiefs are lucky to have such great defensive players, the reality is that no one stays permanently on the roster. It could be one of those hard decisions that the Chiefs have to make where they have to let both or either go.

“We’ll give it our best shot. We’re not gonna…we want the guys to be there. I think it’s important that everybody knows that. I mean that’s that’s when we come into it, we’re gonna come after you, and if it fits the bill, then let’s go and let’s move on and go win a couple of games here so. But with the restrictions, you got to be smart with it, too,” said Reid about the Chiefs’ future strategies.

However, some good news has come in recently that puts the teams in a position where they can retain their star players without a hiccup.

Per recent developments, the NFL has increased the salary cap for each league to $255.4 million. This was because of the vast media revenue, the club repayment, and dead money being sorted out. In 2023, the cap was $224.8 million, and this increase in cap is a 13% jump from the previous year.

The good news for the Chiefs is that they can now retain their star players like Chris Jones and L’Jarius Sneed to keep the signature KC Chiefs defense alive. Per CBS, the Chiefs now have a $19.83 million cap room, which might not be enough to retain Sneed and Jones; however, per CBS’ analysis, if the team tries to restructure Mahomes’ hefty contract, the Chiefs might find a solution to all their problems.
