Apple TV+ docuseries, “The Dynasty” has been revealing unknown facts about Tom Brady’s journey. The former New England Patriots legendary quarterback’s early days in the sport have found mention in the docuseries about how his reaction had been when he got to know about his evolved financial status.
It was during the closing week of August 2002, that Brady’s life got changed for the better. The anecdotes shared by the former defensive lineman, David Nugent revealed a serendipitous moment that he witnessed first-hand while he was with Brady.
The quarterback secured a game-changing deal with the team that transpired into a new agreement which spanned till 2006. It consisted of a unique incentive structure that allowed Brady to earn $250,000 for every AFC Championship victory. As per the reports, the five-year contract in 2002 amounted to $30.52 million and Brady witnessed a huge jump from the previous contract at $864,000 in 2000 to a million-dollar deal.

Nugent recounted an encounter with Brady, “I remember one day, we’re in the car and he just said, “Nugent, I’m a millionaire.” And I said, “Tom, yes you are’’. He goes, “No, no, no. I’m a millionaire.”
The docuseries provides an intimate look into the key moments both on and off-field. Nugent recalled a coincidental moment when Brady found himself in a moment of jubilation, and the iconic song “Black Betty” started playing on the radio. The unexpected soundtrack added to the spontaneous celebration in the car. However, as years passed by, Brady acquired more lucrative offers.

After 2002, the year 2005 turned out to be favorable for the quarterback. A $60 million deal with a six-year contract was on the table. The deal was further anchored by a substantial $26.5 million as a signing bonus. He was offered to receive a $24 million signing bonus in four installments.

Fast forward to 2010, another chapter in Brady’s journey to becoming a millionaire unfolded. Even though he had met with a car accident and was on the verge of an impending uncapped year in 2011, the Patriots took the initiative to boost his fate. They secured a 4-year deal with the player before the start of the regular season.

The deal exposed a $72 million extension along with a staggering $48.5 million guaranteed as a signing bonus amount. Along with this contract, Brady etched his name in NFL history as the recipient of the largest contract during that time.
