Antonio Brown gives himself an offer to Harvard

Harvard College is in a bind, still without a keynote speaker for their annual Class Day. Despite over 10 rejections, the Harvard Alumni Association is scrambling to secure a speaker in less than two weeks. In this high-pressure situation, Antonio Brown has emerged as a potential savior, boldly asking on X, “Harvard, do you want the best commencement speech ever heard?”

Reports suggest that the decline in offers is primarily due to a reluctance to associate with Harvard during a year of controversy, conflicts over high honorariums, and scheduling conflicts, as Senior Class First Marshal Fez S. Zafar explains. He states, “What was explained to us was that obviously this year is probably a rougher year for someone to affiliate themselves with Harvard, especially if they don’t have an existing connection.” Antonio Brown’s offer, therefore, could be seen as a bold move, following in the footsteps of ex-NBA star Jeremy Lin and comedian Conan O’Brien.

Former keynote speakers at Harvard College annual Class Day

Comedian Conan O’Brien was honored as the keynote speaker in Harvard’s first-ever virtual graduation ceremony when he addressed the Class of 2020. The host of Late Night with Conan O’Brien is a Harvard undergraduate and served as the president of the Harvard Lampoon. He previously made the 2000 Class Day speech.

The next keynote speaker after him is NBA star Jeremy Lin. He spoke to the Class of 2021, encouraging them to seek community and embrace their identities. Lin is the first American of Chinese/Taiwanese descent to play and win an NBA championship. Would Brown be given this honor? Let’s wait and see what unfolds next.
