Ja Morant has ignited the sports world, once again. Day after day, controversy continues to surround the Memphis Grizzlies star PG. After signing his $194 Million extension last offseason, Morant has become a lightning pole for controversy with his off-court antics. Following his suspension for flashing a gun on IG live earlier this year, Morant stepped into hot water once again. To everybody’s shock, he was seen repeating his actions. And one more NBA legend is disappointed in him.

With a second suspension from the NBA this year, concerns for his well-being prompted a police wellness check. Drawing criticism and trolling from across the sports world, the latest to add his voice to the growing chorus of critics is NBA legend and Hall of Famer Charles Barkley.

“When the police have to do a, go do a wellness check on you, because people think you’re gonna hurt yourself, and you’re on social media saying goodbye to everybody, I’m like, yo man, what the f*ck going on here?” Barkley said.

Chuck is never one to sugarcoat his sentences, and he gave Morant and all fans and pundits defending the PG a stern reality check.

“When you’re making a hundred million dollars a year for a corporation, it’s different rules for you… There’s gonna be different rules and one of them is you can’t act like a damn idiot plain and simple,” he added.

He especially criticized those who were attempting to justify Morant’s behavior, stating that being a high-profile athlete comes with certain responsibilities and expectations that cannot be ignored.

A troubling pattern behind Ja Morant

Ja Morant’s recent suspension and subsequent wellness check by the police were not isolated incidents but rather the culmination of a series of concerning events. Earlier this year, Morant found himself in a similar situation when he violated NBA policies by flashing a gun on Instagram Live.

Following the increasing criticism piling onto the NBA’s 2019 ROTY, Morant had taken to social media once again. His second suspension was issued by the NBA this month, the extent of which is yet to be decided. It could be up to 45 games. Morant announced a break from social media, thanking his friends and family on his Instagram stories. As fans and family grew worried for the PG’s safety, the police subsequently called upon Morant for a ‘wellness checkup’.
