According to a report by Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, Getsy is expected to fill the offensive coordinator role for the Raiders after Kliff Kingsbury backed out of negotiations. The sudden change in offensive leadership under Getsy signals a shift in quarterback options for the Raiders. With no Justin Fields, Caleb Williams, or Drake Maye in the picture, the focus narrows down to potential candidates like Jayden Daniels, Russell Wilson, Kirk Cousins, or current Raiders’ quarterback Aidan O’Connell.

The Raiders fell just short of the playoffs this season, and their offensive struggles were identified as a key factor. Rookie quarterback Aidan O’Connell took the reins midway through the season, replacing the struggling Jimmy Garoppolo. Despite O’Connell’s commendable efforts, the Raiders are poised to bolster their quarterback position. As the Raiders embark on a new chapter, Jayden Daniel emerges as a potential top choice given his Heisman Trophy-winning performance last season. However, acquiring Daniels in the draft poses challenges and requires significant capital and a bit of luck for the Raiders to secure the coveted rookie signal caller from LSU. On the other hand, Getsy’s joining Raiders was followed by his recent stint with the Bears, where he served as offensive coordinator for the past two seasons and saw mixed results.

The Chicago Bears struggled offensively during Getsy’s tenure, ranking in the bottom half of the NFL in total yards and scoring. Criticism also arose regarding the lack of development in quarterback Justin Fields, which may prompt the Bears to explore other options and potentially target USC’s Caleb Williams in the upcoming draft.

Fields’ comments about feeling “robotic” under the Bears’ coaching early in the season raised questions about Getsy’s approach. Although Fields later clarified that he wasn’t blaming the coaches, it is undeniable that his performance improved once he was allowed to play more freely after returning from injury. Wide receiver DJ Moore also indicated a lack of consistent explosive plays caused Chicago to fall short. “The growth and the development of the offense to me needed to be better than what it was,” coach Eberflus said after the season. The Bears were dissatisfied with the offensive results and parted ways with Getsy and most of his staff at the end of the season.
