A statement was released announcing that Wommack would be actively involved on the sidelines during games with Next Round Live. He emphasized the importance of direct interaction with Jalen Milroe & Co. and stated, “I like to see the player’s eyes…I signal on game day, I do those things. I want to have that interaction with those 11 bodies on the field.” Wommack’s commitment to sideline engagement stems from his past experiences and notably his decision to never call games from the press box again after his first season as a defensive coordinator in 2014 at Eastern Illinois.

Notably, former HC Nick Saban played an integral role in the new DC hiring.
