NFL and MLB Legend, and Jackson State University’s head coach Deion Sanders is sad and angry. Not at some kids in the team pulling pranks, but at the tragic death of Migos’ rapper Takeoff. His death in a bowling alley in Houston prompted Sanders to make a heartfelt speech to his players, and warning them of the dangers they face in their lives.

Talking to his players before their journey to Houston, Sanders outlines strict rules for them to follow. Including a total ban on leaving the hotel premises without his approval. “Takeoff was murdered in a dice game in Houston – where we’re going. So, that eliminates all y’all leaving that hotel, ’cause it ain’t happening until I give you further notice.”

He continues, “You cannot kick it with the same dudes you kicked it with. You cannot associate in the same realms that you associated with. You gon’ have to change if you expect change. I’m sad because it always seems like it’s us, but we wanna say we matter, we wanna say we keep it 100, but it’s always us! I’m just sick and tired of the consistency of people that are influential to you, are leaving us consistently – that’s our rappers. Rest in Peace, Takeoff.”

Takeoff’s death is a result of an escalated disagreement during a dice game. His uncle Quavo was also present at the scene. Reports indicate the altercation resulted in the rapper getting shot “in or near the head”.

Despite the sad and tragic incident in Houston, the NCAAF clash between Jackson State and Texas Southern is set to go on as planned. JSU is 8-0, and fresh from a thumping shutout 35-0+ win against the Southern Jaguars. Sanders and his boys are riding high on an 8 game winning streak, and there is no sign of anyone stopping this train anytime soon. But then again, football is a game of surprises.

On the other hand, Texas Southern is 4-4, their 3 game win streak propping their chances against JSU. Their last win against Lincoln Oaklanders was a thumping 37-2 game. Although their chances look slim, it is still possible for them to get an upset victory over JSU. Their defense is not in the greatest shape, but can possibly hold the JSU offense.

But it only works if the Southern offense is able to score more than their JSU counterparts. Which will be difficult, given how good the JSU defense is. An exciting matchup, albeit in sorrowful circumstances. The expectations are for JSU to go 9-0, but let’s wait and watch.
