The Chicago Bears have been involved in a constant pendulum concerning drafting Williams. Caleb Williams continues to be a hot topic of discussion when it comes to the NFL Draft and while he’s projected to land with the Bears, it’s evident that other QBs could’ve taken his place in the past 2 years.

Caleb Williams, the quarterback for the USC Trojans, was the pride and glory of his team during the 2023 season. The 2022 Heisman winner couldn’t lead his team to a CFP top 4 spot after being vanquished at the hands of the Washington Huskies. Fortunately for Williams, his individual performance stuck out and projected him to the top of the upcoming Draft. And now, with only 39 days away from the massive event, the Bears will be looking to trade Justin Fields to make space for Williams, but is that trade coming in a year or two too late?

In this year’s edition of the Draft, the Bears hold the most power by holding the number 1 overall pick. With the first pick, they’ll be able to pull in QBs like Williams, Drake Maye, or Jayden Daniels. Yet, they have their sights set on the Trojans’ quarterback. Moreover, it is being reported that the Bears will be trading their current Justin Fields, but a Twitter user was quick to point out that the trade should’ve occurred 2 years ago when QBs like CJ Stroud and Bryce Young were still available.

Twitter user, Matt Clapp talked about the late transfer of Fields and said, “If they traded him last year, they’d have drafted a QB. Maybe that’s Bryce Young, maybe it’s CJ Stroud. They’d also not have the Panthers trade and wouldn’t be slated to draft Caleb Williams. ” Additionally, Clapp also referred to the 2023 trade when the Bears took the Panthers’ D.J. Moore in exchange for the first overall pick. Though Moore turned out to be an exceptional player for the Bears, he had a few words to say about Fields being traded to the Steelers.
