It’s been more than two weeks since Charles Kelly departed from his position as the defensive coordinator at Colorado under Deion Sanders to join Auburn’s staff. While Coach Prime swiftly assembled his initial staff in Boulder, he appears to be more deliberate in selecting a replacement for the defensive coordinator role. 

After introducing several new staff members in an update, Prime conveyed that while he could quickly choose a coordinator, he prioritizes making the right decision over being hasty for a special reason.

Colorado encountered coaching changes as defensive coordinator Charles Kelly departed for Auburn, creating a vacancy in both coaching and recruiting roles. Speculation regarding Deion Sanders’ replacement revolved around individuals who could uphold an “NFL atmosphere.” In a recent video Prime Time was captured addressing the vacancy, “I can easily choose a coordinator for you but instead of being hasty…I’d rather be right because you deserve it.” He further shed light on the criteria he is looking for in a potential hire, Not only are we trying to get you a pro but we’re trying to get you a professional either from College or the NFL.”

Notably, 247 Sports analyst Carl Reed identified prospective candidates aligned with Coach Prime’s vision, emphasizing a commitment to maintaining a professional football ambiance within the program. The quest for a new defensive coordinator emerges as a pivotal task for Colorado and Coach Prime in navigating the post-Kelly era.

Coaches who have moved on from Colorado this season 

During this crucial offseason for the Colorado Buffaloes football program, significant changes have taken place within the coaching staff. Five assistant coaches from Deion Sanders’ 2023 staff have departed, leaving notable voids in key positions. The exits include offensive coordinator Sean Lewis, defensive coordinator Charles Kelly, tight ends coach Tim Brewster, defensive ends coach Nick Williams, and O-line coach Bill O’Boyle. Coach Prime, as Sanders is commonly known, has not yet made official announcements regarding the replacements for these pivotal roles.

As the football program gears up for spring practices, the anticipation and curiosity surrounding the forthcoming coaching decisions intensify, with fans and analysts eager to see how Coach Prime will shape the team for the upcoming season.
