The upcoming NFL Draft might just see two former teammates coming back together. Drake Maye and Sam Howell used to play together during their time at North Carolina and now could very well join forces at Washington. Though his response to the potential chance should’ve been met with a lot of excitement, it is all business for Drake Maye.

The Washington Commanders are second in line for the overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Since the top 3 QB prospects are currently Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, and Jayden Williams, it is expected that Washington might just choose Maye. More importantly, the Chicago Bears own the number 1 draft pick and as such, they will choose Williams most likely since he’s the number 1 prospect. But when asked about whether he’s excited to play with Howell as a possibility, Maye had quite a diplomatic answer to give.

In his latest press conference, the former quarterback for the University of North Carolina talked about the potential chances of ending up with the Washington Commanders at the NFL Draft and what it would mean for his equation with Sam Howell. Sam Howell is the current quarterback for Washington who also played for UNC. During his time with UNC, Howell was kind of a mentor to Maye. As such, Maye would welcome such an opportunity to play with Howell but isn’t holding out any hopes.

Maye responded to the potential reunion and said, “You know, Sam has been mentoring me in college and it’s just one of those things where there’s a lot of bigger problems in the world than being able to play with your best friend in the quarterback room. So it’s not awkward for us, it’s just business.” With Maye being one of the top projected QB picks for the Draft, he could very well end up with top-tier teams like the Chicago Browns or the New England Patriots but it seems as if the fans would want him to join hands with Howell and come to Washington.
