Caleb Williams or Shedeur Sanders: who will be the one to take home the spot for the number 1 NFL draft pick? Both players have had a tremendous season so far. While the two compete for the championship this season, the fans can’t help but wonder who’s going to be the NFL’s number 1 draft pick.

Caleb Williams, the quarterback for the USC Trojans, has helped his team throughout the season. The USC Trojans have played over 9 games so far and have won 7 of them. Whereas the Colorado Buffaloes have had a far worse season with a 4-4 record. The star quarterbacks have a tough few matches to play in their upcoming games, but they’ll still be fighting to improve their records for the NFL draft pick.

Caleb Williams can be rightfully credited for the success his team has been having this season. The Trojans have only had 2 losses so far thanks to Williams. He’s thrown an impressive amount of 2,626 passing yards this season and he has a lot more games to go still. Moreover, he’s also completed 25 touchdowns in the past 9 games and thus, he has been improving his odds for the Heisman Trophy.

Shedeur Sanders, the star QB for the Buffaloes, has had quite a different season with his team. The Colorado Buffaloes haven’t had a successful journey so far as compared to the Trojans. They currently stand on a 4-4 record with their latest loss against the UCLA Bruins. Coach Prime’s team has been hoping to make a comeback ever since their disastrous loss at the hands of the Oregon Ducks, The Ducks managed to sweep the floor with the Buffs when they ended the match on a staggering score of 42-6. The Colorado team had a good start to the season but has been a witness to their downfall even with the presence of the talented Shedeur on the team.

Shedeur Sanders proved that he’s more than just his team’s poor performance. He displayed the signs of a true athlete in the match between the Buffaloes and the UCLA Bruins. After the ejection of Shilo Sanders, the safety of the team, and the defense took a massive hit. Shedeur took 17 hits in the match when the team failed to protect him as he threw out the passes. Even if the team doesn’t make it all the way, his name will be etched into the highlights of the season as he proves to be one of the best QBs in the NCAA. The Buffaloes faced off against the USC Trojans but it didn’t end well for Coach Prime’s team as the might of Williams powered through the defense.

The fateful match between the Colorado Buffaloes and USC Trojans

The match between the Buffs and the Trojans proved who the better team was after a much-awaited faceoff. The game was played on 30 September 2023. It was going to be the final answer to the ongoing debate about who the better QB is- Shedeur or Williams?

Unfortunately for the Buffaloes, the answer didn’t suit them at all. They lost by a close score of 48-41. The match saw Williams throw over 403 passing yards, six touchdowns, and one interception. It was obvious that the Buffaloes couldn’t survive the exceptional performance displayed by the 21-year-old. Shedeur couldn’t match his level and unfortunately, cost the team the match.

While the match didn’t end well for the Buffs, they still had a very close performance. Last year, the Buffaloes had a total record of 1-11, a massive downplay from the current season. Coach Prime started off with a bang when he led the team on a consecutive 3-win streak, which eventually led to the massive fan following that showed up in Boulder to support the team. But with a few more games left in the season, Shedeur still has a chance to get back in the lead by giving his best performance yet if he wants to catch up to Williams.

Who is the better quarterback- Shedeur of the Buffs or Caleb of the Trojans?

If the stats of the teams are to be considered, Williams is in the lead by a long shot. Currently, there is no debate about who the better athlete is as the USC Trojans continue to climb up the rankings while the Buffaloes struggle to maintain their consistency. Coach Prime is one of the most established coaches this season, but even his words seem to fall short when it comes to actually playing the matches.

Williams has definitely been the more accurate passer this season. He has created a lot more opportunities than Shedeur. But it could also be because of the lack of a good WR in the Colorado team. Williams hasn’t been hit as many times as Shedeur has, which proves that he can perform better in pressure conditions. Williams is known to be a risk taker and thus, it makes him more reckless as compared to Sanders, who looks for a window of opportunity rather than throwing out a bad pass.

Conclusively, Shedeur does have the rest of the season to build up his records, but he needs to do it fast. There’s no doubt that the Colorado Buffaloes have won the popularity contest so far. But while the Colorado players focus on flexing their chains, players like Caleb Williams stretch quietly in the corner and let their performance speak for themselves. Williams is currently leading the race for the Heisman Trophy as well as the odds of being the number one draft pick in the NFL. But if there’s anything that can be said about the Sanders name, it is that they’re not out of the race until they’re fully out.
