With only 53 days to the much anticipated NFL Draft, tensions and speculations are constantly on the rise, and this time, it’s the Michigan hero on the receiving end. The pride and jewel of former Wolverines’ HC Jim Harbaugh is not projected to be in the top 10 QB draft picks but is still rumored to end up with the Minnesota Vikings after his Combine performance.

JJ McCarthy, the quarterback for the Michigan Wolverines, was the backbone of the team’s unbeatable season last year. The team went 15-0 on an undefeated winning streak before finally hoisting the national championship as well. Harbaugh has referred to McCarthy as the greatest quarterback in college football, surpassing even the likes of Tom Brady. Now that McCarthy is being sought out by both the Denver Broncos and the Vikings, it is going to be interesting to see where the Heisman Trophy contender of 2023 ends up.

On the latest episode of the ‘Purple FTW!’ podcast, Andy Carlson went on to talk about McCarthy’s workout session at the Combine. Impressively, McCarthy had the highest single-season completion percentage of every quarterback to ever throw over 60 MPH at the NFL Scouting Combine. To be more precise, he hit 61 MPH on the radar, just under the record of 62 MPH.

Carlson, who is known to be a die-hard Vikings fan, could be heard being frantic about the fact that McCarthy could end up with the Broncos. He said, “Basically if the Vikings can’t get Drake Maye or Jayden Daniels, I want them to take JJ McCarthy just so stupid a*s Shawn Payton doesn’t get him. I am that petty and I do not care, that’s all.” His words stem as a result of the deep-rooted rivalry between the Vikings and the Broncos but as far as McCarthy is concerned, his meeting with the Broncos went pretty well.

McCarthy talked about his meeting with the Broncos and said, “I had a great formal interview with all the coaches in there, the GM, the OC, it was just amazing. Coach Payton was great. It would be an honor to play for them. Just a great football town in Denver. Love everything about the city, the state. It would be an honor, honestly.” This leads the fans to speculate whether he’ll end up with the Broncos or the Vikings since McCarthy’s meeting with the Minnesotan team went pretty well also.

McCarthy had a lot of praise for his interview with the Minnesota Vikings

The Vikings are doing fantastically well at the NFL Combine by conducting interviews in Indianapolis all week long. With several draft prospects on the line, they seem to have two targets specifically in their sights. They are Michael Penix Jr. of Washington and J.J. McCarthy of Michigan. And after his meeting with the Vikings, McCarthy’s chances with the team seem highly probable.

Speaking of his meeting with the coaches, McCarthy said, “It went amazing. Coach (Kevin) O’Connell led the whole thing, and just being able to see him in person, he was a lot taller than I thought. And coach (Josh) McCown, just everything about what they were talking about, everything about what they wanted out of a quarterback, it’s something that aligns with what I want. Just being able to get on the board with them, have them go through their plays, it was something really special and I enjoyed it.”Thus, the star of the Wolverines has a bright future ahead of him regardless of his landing with the Vikings or the Broncos.
