Colorado Buffs WR Xavier Weaver surprised a lot of fans when he didn’t take part in any of the drills at the 2024 NFL Combine in Indianapolis. Although he didn’t physically participate, he did show up to interview with the media. Still, curiosity hung in the air as to why he didn’t showcase his skills like other athletes in their attempt to raise their draft stocks.

Along with Jimmy Horn Jr., he transferred from South Florida to Colorado for the 2023 season and instantly became a training standout. Xavier Weaver is the only Buffs player to be invited for the 2024 NFL Combine to flex his talents in front of NFL coaches and scouts. As he reported, Weaver underwent shoulder surgery for a torn labrum. He admitted, “I had it the whole season. And I played the whole season with a torn labrum.” The reason why he didn’t undergo an MRI during the playing season was that he would be potentially shut out for injury. And considering that it would be his final college football season, he wasn’t going to let surgery get in the way.

While he candidly put forth his reasons for the non-participation in the physical drills, he believed it to be a “smart” choice. He also reflected on the support he has received online and how grateful he was for the love that he has found himself surrounded with. Nonetheless, the no-show has raised some eyebrows as few analysts question the impact it might hold on his NFL draft stocks.

Will Xavier Weaver’s no-show at the NFL Combine affect his NFL Draft stocks?

The 6’1, 180-pounder still delivered an impressive performance despite his injured shoulder. Even with a torn labrum, Weaver recorded 68 receptions for 908 yards in his first and final season under Deion Sanders. However, he may have missed major recognition from prospective NFL teams, unlike his other fellow NFL prospects who raised their draft stocks with their performances.

One of the standout NFL prospects at the NFL Combine is Texas’ Xavier Worthy who shot his NFL Draft stocks with his record-breaking performance. The Longhorns product awed every spectator with his lightning speed of 4.21 in the 40-yard dash. As for Weaver, he may have missed the action but he made a wise choice getting that much-needed treatment before the NFL season kicks off. Hopefully, he’ll be well enough to make up his absence in Colorado’s Pro Timing Day on March 14.
