Rodgers said that while the importance of role players is often undermined in the NFL, it doesn’t apply to the current Packers roster.
“I feel like this team has a lot of role players and a lot of times when you say that, and I’ve said this before, it has almost a negative connotation… That doesn’t apply when I say that about this squad,” said Rodgers.

“Like there are so many guys that have specific roles… When you give a guy a role, you empower them. When that player embraces that role and makes the most of it, it lifts the entire squad.”
Aaron Rodgers cited the example of Packers tight end Marcedes Lewis and his influence on the team as a role player.
“(Look at) Marcedes, who embraces his role. He’s a wide tight end, on the ball blocker. He occasionally gets a target, but he is an on the ball, physical guy.
“The standard that he sets with his approach and professionalism, and the respect that he demands from his teammates, by the way, that he plays, I think sets a great example of what it means to be a role player,” said Rodgers.

When asked about how this Packers team is different from those that have won the division earlier, Rodgers said that it is qualities like grit and determination that set genuine contenders apart from the rest.
“You know, I feel like our best teams haven’t always won and gotten to the championship game. It’s those teams that have those qualities that you really can’t measure…
“It’s the camaraderie and chemistry and the ability to deal with adversity and not start pointing fingers. That resolve and that grit. I feel like this team has a lot of those characteristics,” said Rodgers.
