The Dallas Cowboys have kept the fans engaged with the Odell Beckham Jr. move. Now that it is not happening, the franchise owner Jerry Jones has come up with a new pitch. It is regarding the schedule of the NFL and may end up exciting millions of fans of the league. But will the league adopt it?

The last time the NFL changed its format was in 2021. But Jones insists that he is a big proponent of more change to it.

A pitch by Jerry Jones

The Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has come up with a pitch on the debatable topic of the number of games in the NFL schedule. He wants the NFL to increase the number of regular season games to 18. And to make room for the increase, Jones has proposed to reduce the number of pre-season games that the teams play.

“One more I see, and I’m a big proponent of it. I think that’s the right level. That allows us to, as we go into the early games of the season, that allows us to have those games. You will get better if you play those games because you will play less preseason games,” Jones said.

The billionaire then delved into the history books to bring out a fact about the preseason games. He also gave his ideal number of such games that a team should play. “You know, at one time, they played six preseason games in the NFL for you history buffs. But still, I like to play two or three preseason games and 18 regular season games and have been a proponent of that,” he added.

The NFL stipulates three preseason games and 17 regular season games. Before the change in 2021, the regular season games were 16 with four preseason games. After the Odell Beckham Jr. saga, this is the latest pitch from the Jones arsenal.

The Odell Beckham Jr. move

The Cowboys wanted to sign wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. from free agency this season. But that seems to have cooled down now. OBJ visited the Cowboys’ facilities to see if he wants to sign with the franchise. But now Dallas seems to be passing up on the explosive NFL star.

The Cowboys have expressed concern over the availability of OBJ for the remainder of this season. According to their assessment, OBJ hasn’t fully recovered from the ACL injury that he sustained during the Super Bowl last season. And with the WR saying he doesn’t see the point in playing in the regular season this time around, maybe the Cowboys’ romance with the deal is coming to an end.
