The New England Patriots’ trajectory in the league has witnessed a drastic shift from their glory days. While they were once atop the pyramid, their last season was a poor reflection of their glorious past. Renowned for the dominant dynasty that was successfully established, Bill Belichick’s reputation as one of the greatest coaches in the league may be on its way to being temporarily tarnished. However, no franchise is too far from redemption.

While a temporary slump is acceptable, New England fans will be concerned if the team’s decline continues. But, one key figure in the franchise’s history imparted some wisdom concerning a potential turnaround. Rob Gronkowski, a former Patriot who was instrumental in establishing a foundation with the team alongside Tom Brady, had some interesting thoughts. So, what did he say?

There’s no doubt that Bill Belichick and the Pats need to work on acquiring offensive weapons to aid their struggling QB Mac Jones. And Gronk seems to be on the same page regarding the issue. Featured on NBC Sports Boston’s Next Pats Podcast’, the TE stated that Jones would require a veteran wide receiver.

Gronk believes that a solid addition to the team could propel Jones’ career. He said, “Mac Jones is going to need some help. I believe he’s going to need a wide receiver like a DeAndre Hopkins to come in. A very savvy, veteran wide receiver. On top of that, they’re going to need a first-round pick wide receiver, or a second- or third-rounder as well to help him out and get him to Pro Bowl status.”  But, is name-dropping the talented Cardinals WR who has been in the news because of trade speculation a mere coincidence, or is something afoot?

After enduring controversies with his team this season, DeAndre Hopkins’ potential trade has been a big topic this offseason. If the Cardinals let him go, the NFL world knows that among the teams vying to have the WR on board, the Patriots are quite certainly a rational choice. For starters, Belichick has declared that he holds admiration for the wideout.

However, the most important factor in this situation is Mac Jones. A young QB lacking in experience could benefit greatly from having a pair of solid hands. With Gronkowski floating the Hopkins idea so freely, could the possibility of having the WR on the Pats become a reality? From the looks of it, New England may be a top contender as a potential landing spot for the wideout. Do you think Hopkins will make his way over to Belichick during this hour of need? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
