The NFL is undergoing major changes behind the scenes in the build-up to the 2021 season. League commissioner Roger Goodell announced earlier this week that from 2021 onwards, teams will participate in a 17-game regular season. The league further gave an official statement confirming plans of playing an increased number of international matches. Now, NFC South old boys Atlanta Falcons confirmed that they will be one of the teams to play an international game in the coming 12 months.
In an official statement issued via their official Twitter handle, the Falcons confirmed that they will travel to North London in 2021. They will feature as the home team at the state-of-the-art Tottenham Hotspur Stadium against an unnamed opponent. However, this fixture is subject to COVID-19 related restrictions in America and the United Kingdom.

“The exact date of the game, as well as the Falcons’ non-divisional opponent, will be announced when the NFL releases its 2021 schedule in May. Final scheduling of the game is subject to the status of the COVID virus, travel restrictions, and game-attendance allowances,” the organization said in a statement.
Daniel Levy-led Tottenham Hotspur has endured a mixed bag of results in 2020-21. The club is under debt at the moment due to the increased expenses sustained in building their 62,850 seater home ground. It is the third-largest football stadium in England and boasts some cutting-edge facilities, including retractable grass ‘soccer’ pitch revealing an artificial surface underneath for NFL games.

However, this game could be shifted back to the US if there is a further rise in the number of COVID-19 positive patients in England. This would potentially be Atlanta’s second trip to London. Previously, the Falcons lost to NFC North franchise Detroit Lions by 22-21 scoreline at the iconic Wembley Stadium back in 2014.
