Recently, the Carolina Panthers decided to bench the former starting quarterback, Baker Mayfield. Instead, they gave the job of the starting QB to 24-year-old P J Walker. Similarly, they made many changes to their roster. It looks like the Panthers are in rebuilding mode. Now, Carolina received offers from the Los Angeles Rams for two first-round picks in exchange for the defensive end, Brian Burns. However, the Panthers rejected the offer.

The Los Angeles Rams have been the most active team on the trade market for many years now. They exchanged top draft picks for Von Miller last November, cornerback Jalen Ramsey in 2019, and quarterback Matthew Stafford before the 2021 season.

The Panthers probably turned down the Rams’ offer of two first-round picks because they wouldn’t be given out this year but in 2024 and 2025. They traded their 2023 first-round pick to the Lions in exchange for Matthew Stafford.

Brian Burns, the 24-year-old who was the No 16 overall pick in the 2019 NFL draft, plays the fourth year of his rookie deal. He is earning $2,341,389 as a base salary. The team chose to activate the pass rusher’s fifth-year choice, which would have paid him $16,012,000 in 2023. He will undoubtedly earn a contract renewal before getting paid for that final year, and it will be substantial.

Despite being healthy enough to throw the ball, Mayfield is expected to play second fiddle to PJ Walker.

The Carolina Panthers are currently sitting at the fourth spot in the NFC South division. They have an unpleasant record of 2 wins and 6 losses. With their quarterback situation unresolved, the Panthers do need a solid offensive side. Trading a few first-round picks for their tight end might not be a good idea at this stage. Do you think the Cardiac Cats will be able to resolve their offense soon?
