NFL Expert Gives His Take on ‘Bridge’ Quarterback Andy Dalton

The Matt Nagy-led Chicago Bears suffered a disheartening end to their 2020 NFL campaign. The Bears lost in the Wild Card Playoffs to Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints.
Quarterback Mitchell Trubisky started the game in place of the injured Nick Foles. The NFC North old boys were knocked out by a 21-9 loss at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
The Chicago-based franchise opted to let Trubisky leave this summer. He signed a 1-year deal with the Buffalo Bills where he will play back-up to Josh Allen. But that left coach Matt Nagy and GM Ryan Pace to fill a huge void in the quarterback department.

The Bears were reportedly in line to trade for Seattle Seahawks superstar, Russell Wilson. But nothing came of that rumor and they eventually brought in former Cincinnati Bengals and Dallas Cowboys quarterback, Andy Dalton.

Speaking on the latest segment of ESPN’s Get Up, NFL Draft analyst Mel Kiper spoke about Andy Dalton’s short-term prospects in Chicago. But he was not too optimistic about the quarterback situation that Chicago finds itself in right now.

He said, “I think he’s a flat-toe quarterback…he needed talent around him, quality talent. With the Bengals, he had some good talent, got into the playoffs that was it.
“Chicago Bears, their major needs right now going into the draft – offensive line, wide receiver, impact players around the quarterback and I think that’s where Andy Dalton is going to struggle bidding about the Windy City.
“Not that great arm strength while he was in Cincinnati but I think this is a bridge.

“Make no mistake he’s a bridge to the next quarterback right now though we don’t know who that quarterback will be….This is an organization that has to win,” Kiper said on the show.

The man has a point. The Bears and Dalton need to make some key offensive additions at the upcoming 2021 NFL Draft. However, it will be interesting to see if they trade up and draft a quarterback in the 1st round instead. Watch this space for more.
