NFL quarterbacks are in a league of their own. The ability to change tactics by looking at the defensive lines, and the ability to find open receivers while defenders charge at you with destructive intent is simply breathtaking. And the ability to, if needed, rush the ball forward themselves. And more than fans, it is usually the opposing defenders that get to watch these geniuses closely in action. One such defender is the New York Giants’ safety Landon Collins. And the QB who showed him a piece of his magic? Aaron Rodgers.

Back in November 2018, Collins sat down on the ‘Simms and Lefkoe Show’, wherein he calls Rodgers the best player he’s had to play against. He goes on to recall the one play that proved to him that A-Rod was (and is) the greatest QB ever.

“I could tell you one play. We had a practice squad guy lined up on 17, right? So I’m disguising them kind of down towards the box, but I’m actually going back. So, for some reason, I’m in this stance and I’m never in this stance. A-Rod looked at me and smiled. And kinda gave, like, a lil’ giggle. And then did something with his hand to 17.” Said Collins.

“I knew it was a signal to 17. I looked at 17; I looked at my guy that’s covering him. I said, “S–t.” As soon as he said “Hut”, I tried to run before he said “Hut.” He already said it. I’m already out of leverage. Touchdown to 17, over my guy.” He added.

Aaron Rodgers’ brilliance deciphers Giants’ defense and sends them packing

The play Collins is talking about wasn’t hard to find. The incident dates back to 2016, wherein the Green Bay Packers traveled to New Jersey to face the Giants. In the 2nd quarter, when the Packers are 7-3 up, Rodgers‘ quick signal is easy to miss, but it is there for all to see. And just like Collins described, the next thing that happens was the Packers QB cruising the ball over a Giants’ defensive player, into the hands of Davante Adams for a 29-yard touchdown. The Packers go on to win the game 23-16, with Rodgers throwing for 259 yards.

The 4 time MVP has spent all 18 years of his NFL career with the Green Bay Packers, guiding them to a Super Bowl victory in 2011. He has over 4,700 completed passes and over 56,000 yards in the regular season. And he is regarded, rightfully so, as one of the best quarterbacks in NFL history.
