Some players in the NFL consider playing with a wristband instead of using a play sheet, while some look down upon it. Russell Wilson, the Broncos quarterback, has used one on multiple occasions. In the past, he has faced some scrutiny for his actions while on the field, with his ex-coach, Pete Carroll.
Pete Carroll and Russell Wilson have had a somewhat unique relationship throughout the years. Wilson has played for the Seahawks since he entered the league. There have been some great moments together for the ex-duo, with their time at the Seahawks, but since the start of this season, there has been some friction between the two.

Russell Wilson has showcased some great performances this season with the Denver Broncos. He has decidedly worn a wristband with plays on it every now and then. When he played against the Jaguars on October 30th, he had worn a wristband with plays. That match had ended with a Broncos’ win of 21-17. Wilson had performed really well with 18-30 passing for 252 yards and one touchdown.

Russell himself has said that playing with a wristband at times has helped him. During an interview, he said, “I didn’t know winning or losing mattered if you wore a wristband or not. I think I’ll do whatever it takes to make sure that we’re rolling, and moving, and everything else,” signaling how he is willing to do what is necessary to garner a win. In terms of his relationship with his ex-coach, Pete Carroll certainly had something to say about his former quarterback through his cleverly veiled implications.

After his former quarterback’s shift to the Broncos, Pete Carroll has made several quips from the beginning of the season.

At the start of the season, the Seahawks had emerged victorious by a small margin of 17-16 against the Broncos, Carroll had made some remarks about Wilson and the Seahawks wanting to force him left on the field and had said, “It’s hard for him numbers-wise and all that.’‘ Surprisingly, the Broncos’ quarterback had thrown a season-best of 340 yards in that game with a touchdown.
Prior to the game against the Seahawks, Wilson spoke to the media after being asked about his hesitation to wear a wristband. Jokingly, he had mentioned, “[we] won a lot of games there without one on my wrist,” making it clear that he would go on to do whatever is deemed necessary to play a winning game.
