During a Q&A session on her Instagram, Brittany Mahomes was asked by one of her fans, “Do you have bodyguards?”

To which the mother of two replied, “We do. I trust nobody and this world is crazy!”

Brittany Mahomes’ response makes perfect sense if you follow the crazy misfortunate events that have transpired over the years. Just a month back, Zach Pascal of the Philadelphia Eagles was robbed and assaulted at gunpoint in Prince George’s County in Maryland. Lax security is another concern for most professional athletes and their families and the NFL world is all too familiar with it. However, one particularly gruesome incident in the past changed the mere perception of security.

Learning from Sean Taylor

The shooting of Washington Redskins’ safety Sean Taylor in 2007, left the entire sports world baffled. The security and safety of professional athletes were immediately brought into question as many NFL athletes shared their extreme measures. At the time, Washington Redskins tackle Chris Samuels opened up on his plans to buy a gun while Jacksonville Jaguars running back Fred Taylor showcased his trust in a rather vicious canine friend.

The league advised its players to maintain a lower public profile. League spokesperson Greg Aiello said, “Lower their profile as private citizens and try to avoid making it conspicuous that they are NFL players, In other words, don’t make it easy for people to target you.”

Sixteen years down the line, players have resorted to recruiting their own security staff, and Brittany Mahomes echoes the same sentiment.
