After the Chicago Bears lost against the Washington Commanders on Thursday Night Football, quarterback Justin Fields expressed his frustration. In the game where the Bears lost by a score of 12-7, he despairingly looked at their three-time losing streak. The team’s performance is a point of conflict. Chicago tries to move away from its stagnant losses against many teams. Amid another season quickly slipping away, the Bears try to decide the best course of action.

“We always get told that ‘we’re almost there, we’re almost there,'” Fields said. “Me, personally, I’m tired of being almost there. I’m tired of being just this close. I feel like I’ve been hearing it for so long now. At the end of the day, all you can do is get back to work. That’s the only reaction you have. You live and you learn. Just get back next week and keep going, keep getting better.”

The failure of Chicago to score on three trips inside the red zone-the second instance in its last three games—was the primary factor in the loss to the Commanders.

The many red-zone issues the Bears suffered

People around him were sure they were witnessing a historic achievement. For Chicago’s second game drive, they soon would experience one of their worst nightmares. On Chicago’s first drive, Justin Fields intended to throw touchdown passes but misfired at the leaders of the Washington defense, setting up a long drive that would end in a botched attempt.

On the last drive, Chicago made its only trip inside the end zone when Fields scampered for a career-long 39 yards. Fields attempted a ball to Darnell Mooney on fourth-and-4 within the 5-yard line, but it struck the receiver in the chest as his body crossed the goal line. When Mooney tripped over the ball, he didn’t catch it until he was just out of the end zone.

The first-round pick for 2021 has had an unimpressive 57.7 percent completion rate for 2,739 yards with 11 touchdowns and 15 interceptions in his first 18 NFL games. He has also contributed 702 yards and three touchdowns on the ground.
