The New England Patriots are in rebuild mode. While the franchise has decided to give Cam Newton another shot, they’ve gone ahead and changed the face of their offense with several free-agent signings.
Acquiring players like tight ends Matthew Judon and Hunter Henry, the side has also roped in players like wide receiver Nelson Agholor and Kendrick Bourne to boost their offensive prowess.
But it seems like the New England Patriots aren’t done just yet. Recent reports have suggested that they are interested in trading for a wantaway wide receiver going by the name of Julio Jones.

The Atlanta Falcons are caught in a cap crisis. Unable to sign even some of their rookie to contracts, the franchise is looking to offload its star wideout for some much-needed cap relief and draft picks.
New England Patriots could pursue Jones
With the Patriots being one of the names being floated around, NFL insider Mike Giardi tweeted that while Jones’ input regarding the matter is unknown, there is word about the Patriots having discussions about the wideout.
“Can’t speak to what Julio Jones wants, but was told the #Patriots have had internal discussions about the wide receiver. The 32-year old had been incredibly durable until this past season when he dealt with a troublesome hamstring,” he tweeted.

Giardi though said that he is not aware of how seriously the Patriots are after the wideout.
“The seriousness of those discussions weren’t made known to me so I shall not speculate.”
While something foolproof is yet to emerge with respect to this story, the whispers of Patriots having talks about the wide receiver seem encouraging.
Jones is one of the finest wide receivers in the league. Aged 32, the wide receiver is a 7-time Pro Bowl and a 2-time NFL All-Pro. In fact, his performances have been so good that he was named in the NFL’s 2010s All-Decade Team.

While Jones did struggle with his hamstring last season, he remains a deep ball threat. Something that the Patriots missed last season.
Trading for the wideout will require some serious draft capital though. But that’s something that Pats Head Coach Bill Belichick shouldn’t hesitate to shell out.

The Falcons have made it clear that they’re willing to listen to offers. And that should be encouraging enough for the Patriots to take a shot at landing the wide receiver.
