For many people, it would be a no-brainer to choose the greatest player of all time in football. If the criteria are based on choosing someone who has won the most Super Bowl titles, has played for over twenty seasons, and has a book full of records, then Tom Brady definitely comes to mind. His illustrious career has shown how much of a talented player he is. However, some legends and all-time greats would not agree with that. And when fans heard their opinions, they were quick to defend their favorite quarterback.

After TB12 announced that he was retiring “for good,” many fans and analysts crowned him the best of all time. However, the legendary outside linebacker of the New York Giants, Lawrence Taylor, did not share the same thoughts as others.

The 64-year-old appeared on the ‘I Am Athlete’ podcast. There, he said that Joe Montana holds the record of the GOAT in his book. According to him, Brady played when things were different; when defenses hesitated to hit him because they did not want a penalty.

“Joe Montana is still my man,” Taylor said. “Still my man. You say greatest quarterbacks ever, I’m still with Joe Montana. I’m not going with Tom Brady. … Listen, Tom Brady got all the rules on his side. You can’t touch him. You can’t touch him. If you hit him, if you breathe on him, they’re gonna throw a flag.”

There is no doubt that Joe Montana is one of the best shot-caller to ever play in the league. He has two MVP titles, three Super Bowl MVP awards, and four Super Bowl rings in his trophy case. His 273 touchdown throws rank 19th all-time, while his 40,551 passing yards rank 22nd. But that isn’t to say that Tampa Tom falls short at any place. He has three more Super Bowl titles than Montana, holds the NFL records for all-time passing yards (89,214) and touchdowns (649), was named Super Bowl MVP five times, and owns three MVP awards.
