Rejecting Philadelphia Way Before Historic $245 Million Trade, Russell Wilson Used Veto Power to End Up in Denver

Ever since the trade between Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos for Russell Wilson, he has been in the news. The trade came as a surprise to most, especially since the trade cost the Broncos quite a few picks in the future drafts. With the 2022 NFL season ending in disappointment for the Broncos and Wilson, all eyes are focused on 2023.

This may not have been the case had things gone ahead differently in the past. With news coming up about a potential trade that was on the table for Wilson. The NFL draft and the roster would have been quite different for all parties concerned, especially for Wilson.

Russell Wilson had the option to go to the Eagles

In 2022, as the trades for the franchises were underway, Philadelphia Eagles came to the Seahawks in an attempt to trade Russell Wilson. And as we know, it did not go through and Russell ended up with the Broncos. Had he not rejected the Eagles, the dynamic would have been quite different.

On the Rich Eisen Show, Rich Eisen along with his co-hosts discussed the implications of the trade falling through. Rich Eisen said, “could you imagine if Russell’s like, sure I’ll go to Philadelphia.”

The show discussed the implications of the trade had it gone differently. Rich Eisen continued, “Could you imagine if Jalen Hurts wound up being flipped to Seattle?” “Jalen could be the one sitting in Seattle with his new contract with the Seahawks having him,” said Eisen speculating the possible permutations.

Wilson’s decision to ditch the Eagles: a hit or a miss?

Denver had a pretty poor year last season. Finishing in the lower half of the conference and sacking their head coach before the season’s end, never springs happy times. But this could have been quite different, at least for Wilson, had Russell gone to the Eagles instead.

Russell would have enjoyed a better setup with the eagles Rich discusses on his show. “Clear the setup for him would have been as i mentioned differently off the field. But i think it would have been better on the field. Because he wouldn’t have had not had a rookie head coach, obviously right,” says Rich Eisen. Russell is focusing on his upcoming trip to Colorado for his camp with the pass academy. But with one eye fixed on the season ahead, the pressure on him is building to deliver with the Broncos. Now that he has teamed up with the old coach, Sean Payton, expectations will be high.
