Gambling is a serious issue in the NFL, and the league has recently taken steps to curb it among players and staff. The NFL has updated its strict gambling policy with six important rules that aim to prevent any conflicts of interest or integrity violations. To show how serious it is about enforcing these rules, the NFL has cracked down on five players who violated them during the 2022 season. Three of these players have been suspended indefinitely from playing in any games because they bet on NFL games that season. They are Quintez Cephus and C.J. Moore from the Detroit Lions, and Shaka Toney from the Washington Commanders.

These players will not be eligible to return until at least the end of the 2023 season, according to the NFL’s press release on Friday. Two other players received six-game suspensions for violating other gambling rules. The NFL’s crackdown on gambling has the support of a 73-year-old Super Bowl Champion, who agrees with the league’s efforts to protect the integrity of the game.

Theismann explained: “I don’t think they’re going to say if you play in the NFL, you can’t gamble. But they certainly want to protect the integrity of the game as much as they possibly can. And I can certainly understand it.” He added that NFL players, who earn millions of dollars, might be allowed to gamble in the off-season, but not during the regular season.
