The ex-army officer went on to mention the facets with which he disagreed in terms of Kaepernick’s method of protest. However, he showed an intricate understanding of it. On the podcast, he went on to say, “We have a different relationship to the flag, the Anthem because of our experience. So I think I understood that too. I was like hey I don’t like these protesting you know. And saying he’s not going to stand for the anthem but he feels differently about those things than I do because of what I experienced and you know protests are meant to be uncomfortable.”

Boyer made it clear that while he might not have agreed with the way Kaepernick protested, he understood the need for it and where the QB was coming from. Furthermore, Boyer spoke about his connection and love for Kaepernick which had nothing to do with his protests. He mentioned how the controversial QB brought him the joy of watching the 49ers play.
