With a roster sprinkled with superstars led by none other than mercurial Patrick Mahomes, the Kansas City Chiefs are a force to reckon with. The franchise most recently won a Super Bowl back in 2020 and appeared in another the very next season.

But their most recent outing was one that ended on a sour note. The Chiefs were steamrolled by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to 31-9 defeat in Super Bowl LV. And since then many have their doubts regarding the Chiefs.
But to say that they have established a dynasty is a bit of a stretch. Something that NFL analyst Stephen A. Smith seems to agree with.

Kansas City Chiefs, far from being a dynasty
While discussing whether the Kansas City Chiefs had established a dynasty in the NFL or not, Smith reminded everyone exactly who the reigning Super Bowl champions were.
“What damn dynasty? I’m sorry? Who’s the reigning Super Bowl champion? Who that?… The Tampa Bay Buccaneers they’re the champions,” said Smith on the show First Take.

Drawing parallels to the Patriots’ dynasty, Smith said the franchise has a long way to go in the pursuit of that dream.

“I’m sorry, is it the Kansas City Chiefs that won 6 Super Bowls? Is it the Kansas City Chiefs that have multiple Super Bowls on their resume?
“The last time I checked when they won the Super Bowl last year, it was after a 50-year drought. Hank Stram was the coach, and I was 3 years old. What damn dynasty?” remarked Smith.

Reiterating his previous point, Smith said that the Chiefs need to win at least a couple of more Super Bowls to be regarded as a dynasty.

“The Kansas City needs to come back with a couple of more Super Bowls. And then we could talk about dynasty.”
The Buffalo Bills of the 90s too were a powerhouse. They reached 4 consecutive Super Bowls between 1991-94 only to lose them all. Despite their solid showing, they are never truly recalled as a dynasty.

These Chiefs have won at least 1 Super Bowl. But to be regarded as one of the greatest NFL teams to have ever played, they need a few more rings on their fingers.
