Cam Newton: A Soft-hearted Quarterback
In the video, Newton is seen entering a hospital ward where a 10-year old with a serious heart condition; Advanced Pulmonary Hypertension, is sitting on his bed. This video was shot in 2016, days after Christmas, when the then-Carolina Panthers star Cam Newton was at his career’s peak.
As published in WSOCTV, the boy, named Taylor Deckard’s dream was to meet Newton. Because of his complicated health scenario, he had to spend his Christmas holidays at the hospital. Just a day before he was scheduled to undergo surgery, the 31-year old quarterback surprised the kid by visiting him in his hospital room.

When Newton entered the room, for a few moments, Taylor couldn’t believe his eyes. Then he stood up and hugged Newton. Reportedly, then Newton said, “I feel your heart. It’s going 1,000 miles an hour.”
Later, when he spoke to the media, Newton said, “He’s a person full of joy. Full of energy, it’s sad what he was going through, but I was happy just to be there.”
The quarterback gifted Taylor a bag full of goodies. They spent time shooting Nerf guns. There’s no cure for Advanced Pulmonary Hypertension.
Defined by his great deeds
In December last year, Newton worked actively to raise money for his Surprise Sleigh charity event. Although he had recently undergone surgery, Newton didn’t restrain himself from going out. Eventually, he ended up donating more than $130,000 to numerous schools and charitable organizations.
During his trip, Newton visited men’s shelters, schools, food banks, along with the Urban Promise Charlotte After-School and Summer Camp. His financial assistance came in the form of gift cards and checks. Newton even provided Under Armour backpacks to kids for free.
Once the event ended, Newton tweeted, “Just wrapped up our final stop of #SantaCamsSurpriseSleigh. Another $25K financial donation was given to @MensShelterCLT! In addition, guests enjoyed a delicious @Bojangles1977 meal and were treated to a gift card.”
