“Will She Start Standing For the National Anthem? Asking for my friend Colin Kaepernick”: American Radio Host Brings Up Former NFL Star to Target Brittney Griner

Various news outlets began spreading the news of Brittney Griner. The star of the Phoenix Mercury was detained in Russia. The reason was that the athlete was found with a small amount of hashish oil in her possession. Cannabis and its usage is highly illegal in Russia. It was not until after March 5th that the news outlet started reporting about the detention of an unnamed American basketball player. Russian officials took Griner into their custody at the Sheremetyevo International Airport near Moscow. People are paying attention to her trial now and so is an American radio host.

Larry Elder, the host of The Larry Elder Show, shared a post on Instagram. He posed a question that goes, “When Brittney Griner finally returns to America, will she start standing for the National Anthem? Asking for my friend, Colin Kaepernick.”

Why was the connection between Brittney Griner and Colin Kaepernick?

The stinging question posed against Griner was made because of the protest against the police brutality movement. In 2020, the WNBA star opposed the playing of the National Anthem before the WNBA games. The 31-year-old also started kneeling to the National Anthem. Following the movement started by Colin Kaepernick in 2016 against racial injustice in the United States of America.

Colin Kaepernick, along with being a former quarterback for San Francisco 49ers, is a civil right activist. He is involved in great philanthropic works. His Know Your Rights Camp aims to uplift black and brown people. Also, encourage them to be free, brilliant, and safe at what they do. The non-profit organization set up by him named the Colin Kaepernick Foundation, fights oppression with the tools of education and social activism.
