The Philadelphia Eagles‘ Halloween will be memorable. Either it will be a treat or a trick for their upcoming season, but it sure will be an eventful Halloween. The deadline for the NFL trade falls on October 31. Now, the Eagles’ buying activities will decide whether the future team will be a treat for them or a trick.

As the Trade Day approaches, Howie Roseman has much to think about. The 5-1 Philadelphia Eagles are one of the best teams in the league. The Eagles have one of the top defenses in the league. Sirianni and the team’s defensive coordinator, Sean Desai, will have a table full of choices, each with pros and cons, to be considered part of the Eagles’ defense.

Being a reputed franchise in the league, the Eagles have played for over 81 seasons, with three NFL championships and a Super Bowl ring beside them. The team continues the legacy Andy Reid, who guided the Eagles from 1999 to 2012, left behind. Reid was known for his signature blitzing schemes and opportunistic playmaking techniques from the defense. Here are some players Roseman would consider:

Justin Simmons: Denver Broncos

The Broncos’ safety is the best option out there for the Eagles. The three-time All-Pro scored six interceptions in 2022, elevating him to the top position with another player for the NFL lead. Simmons is well-versed in the Vic Fangio defense and is also the base for Desai’s schemes. As the safety’s contract is about to conclude next year, he would be a great pick for the third-round draft. All this, with the added cherry on top of him assuming the vacant safety role alongside Reed Blankenship. It does not get better for the Eagles, but it might come at a financial cost for the team.

Budda Baker: Arizona Cardinals

Budda Baker seems just the perfect fit for the Eagles. The 27-year-old is well aware of the Eagles’ defense scheme, thanks to the new head coach, Jonathan Gannon, who was the defensive coordinator of the Eagles in 2021. This, along with Baker ranking 73rd in NFL Network’s Top 100 players, makes him a desirable pick for the Eagles. However, the Cardinals will probably not let go of their two-time All-Pro safety before the deadline.

Kyle Dugger: New England Patriots

The Patriots’ safety is another pick that the Eagles might consider strongly. Not only can Dugger fulfill the safety position perfectly, pressurizing the QBs whenever necessary, but he can also be both a free and strong safety. Dugger is also known for his blitzing schemes, which flawlessly match Desai’s defense schemes. As the player had two picks last season with 3 interceptions, he sure will be in the sights of the authorities.

Kevin Byard: Tennessee Titans

Byard being on a $4 million salary is the first thing Roseman would look at, given it would be a huge convenience for the team. Second, Byard’s veteran presence and his drive to win a Super Bowl make him a good fit for the team and its safety issue that needs to be addressed.

Zach Ertz: Arizona Cardinals

Ertz, too, makes total sense as a player for the injury-prone Eagles. Looking at the long run, his skills as a tight end are what the Eagles need for a team that is struggling in the red zone. Moreover, his record for the most catches in a single season by a tight end, with 116 in 2018, makes him a thoughtful pick.

Jaylon Johnson: Chicago Bears

Johnson ranks fifth best among cornerbacks with at least 50 coverage snaps. His completion percentage of 41.7% among quarterbacks who have faced at least 10 targets ranks him in the fourth position. Additionally, Johnson will be a good pick for the Eagles tethered secondary, looking at his versatility.

Devin Bush: Seattle Seahawks

Bush is a linebacker who can move like a safety, an instant benefit for the Eagles. Alongside this, his tackle records are something the Eagles won’t mind spending a fortune on if they have to. Given his 81 tackles for the Steelers last season, he becomes a first-round pick.

Jalen Thompson: Arizona Cardinals

Coming to the rescue of the battered-up secondary of the Eagles can be the versatile defensive back Jalen Thompson, who could also double up as a centerfield and much more. Moreover, his $36 million contract extension in 2022 will be a big plus point for the Eagles, although they would have to hit a good cap size for him.

Kenny Moore: Indianapolis Colts

Given the current condition of the Colts with Anthony Richardson’s major injury, the Colts would think a second time before saying no to any deals for their long-term interest. Additionally, Moore will be an amazing pick, given his commendable performance as a quarterback, for which he was also ranked among the Top 100, and his being in the final year of his contract makes it even easier.

Jerry Hughes: Houston Texans

Veteran Jerry Huges is the type of player who fits into the Eagles like the last piece of a jigsaw puzzle. With his expiring contract and a cap hit of $4.1 million, the owners will see him as one convenient pick. But the convenience does not count as a compromise on his skills. Huges has nine sacks in 2022 and 68 in his career in over 14 seasons.

Hence, along with having the responsibility to carry on with the legacy, Sirianni also has to build one of his own to be remembered by posterity. He’ll need some of the best defensive players around the league to strengthen the Eagles’ defense.
