Adriano Moraes got his hand at the newest ONE Championship belts with his victory over Yuya Wakamatsu at ONE X in the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

In the ONE Flyweight World Championship bout, fighting with the fire seems to cost “Little Piranha” his Flyweight World Championship bout. The winner of MMA knockout of the year in 2021 for his win over Demetrious Johnson, got a submission win over a hard-hitting and streaking flyweight contender.

The Brazilian fighter with the record 3 title reigns in ONE Circle kept his calm and didn’t step away from the gameplan to secure the win.

With the win, Moraes improved to 20-3 in his MMA career, and Wakamatsu fell to 15-5 after the defeat.

Round by Round breakdown of the championship bout at ONE X

In round 1, both fighters started the fight tentatively. Even the referee had to warn the fighters to be more active. However, with both fighters showing power to finish the fight, they were thoughtful about picking their shots.

In the ultimate moments of the first round, “Mikinho” took the challenger down. However, Wakamatsu scrambled to the feet and controlled Moraes against the ONE Circle.

In round 2, both fighters showed patience, only for Wakamatsu to initiate the clinch and Moraes to attempt a flying knee moments later. It was a surprise to see Wakamatsu keep going to grappling exchanges with the Brazilian and ‘Mikinho’ attempting the flying knees.

In round 3, the 33-year-old World Champion and 27-year-old challenger got the yellow card for the inactivity. After that, Moraes took the back of the Tribe Tokyo MMA fighter, but the latter got back to the safe position and didn’t lose his composure.

Wakamatsu even got his own takedown in the round, and when the American Top Team / Constrictor Team fighter got back to his feet, the Japanese fighter took him down again.

However, the grappling heavy approach backfired, and eventually, the Brazilian fighter submitted Wakamatsu.
