MMA requires an athlete to be extremely fit, like any other sport. Younger fighters have more advantages in the fighting than older fighters. However, Japanese mixed martial artist, Yoshihiro Akiyama, is on another level of fitness. Nicknamed ‘Sexyama’, Akiyama is 47 years old but looks like someone much younger than him. UFC commentator and renowned podcaster, Joe Rogan, recently talked about the ‘Physical 100’ star on his podcast.

Joe Rogan’s 100 million-dollar podcast is the world’s largest audio platform. His guests range from various walks of life. Rogan’s podcast releases episodes every week. Its first show date’s back to 2009. Famous comedian Punkie Johnson joined the UFC commentator-podcaster in the #1937 episode of ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’.

Johnson and Rogan chatted about the Korean reality show, ‘Physical: 100’, where 100 men and women compete against each other in different physical challenges. The competitors in this show are usually extremely fit and possess well-developed physical attributes. Moreover, Joe Rogan watched some videos of the show on YouTube as they were having the conversation. He was surprised to find out that Yoshihiro Akiyama was a contestant in the show.

Joe Rogan is familiar with the ‘Sexyama’

It amazed the renowned podcaster to find out that Akiyama was a part of the show, ‘Physical: 100’. He said, “Hey, is that Akiyama? That might be Akiyama.” Rogan added, “That guy with the big head in the background.” The 55-year-old then proceeded to mention that he was familiar with the Japanese mixed martial arts. “They call him ‘Sexyama”, said Rogan. He added, “Yoshihiro Akiyama. He is a world-famous MMA fighter that fought in PRIDE.”

Joe Rogan also explained why Akiyama got the nickname that he has. He said, “They call him ‘Sexyama’ because he’s like, super tan and super jacked.” The pair then proceeded to watch video clips of the show, ‘Physical: 100’, and Joe Rogan says, “Oh that’s Squid games ...Squid game!” He added, “That’s a good idea. Someone’s gonna get f***ed up, though.”

Joe Rogan then mentioned a few more details about Akiyama. He said, “This dude [Akiyama] was a PRIDE legend.” Rogan added, “He used to fight with his gi on. but he fought with no gi.” Rogan also mentioned how physically fit and jacked Akiyama was. “He’s an evil fighter, man. He was bada**. Akiyama was legit …he was super legit with judo,” said Joe Rogan.

The Japanese mixed martial artist, Yoshihiro Akiyama had briefly fought under the UFC banner. Akiyama made his UFC debut in 2009 in a fight against Alan Belcher, which he won. He would compete in a total of seven fights but managed to win only two fights. However, Akiyama still managed to grab the ‘Fight of the Night’ honor three times in the UFC.
