Jason Day has been experiencing minor setbacks in his career of late. The veteran golfer withdrew from the 2021 Memorial Tournament due to a back injury and the same will keep him out from U.S. Open 2021. Day missing the third major of the season also means that his impressive streak comes to an end.
Jason Day was not given a spot at U.S. Open 2021. He had to go through qualifying to book a place in the field, but the veteran golfer opted out from playing the qualifiers. Primarily because the back injury compelled him to.
NBC Sports’ Will Gray confirmed that Jason Day was missing from the Columbus sectional qualifier on Monday which obviously means that he can’t qualify for U.S. Open 2021. It is also the first major that Day isn’t exempt for since 2010!

Jason Day ends impressive major championship streak
Earlier in the year, we saw Rickie Fowler failing to qualify for the 2021 Masters and thereby ending a streak of playing in 42 consecutive major championships. It was agonizing indeed, but now, Jason Day faces the same fate.
Since Jason Day won’t be a part of the field at U.S. Open 2021, it brings down his impressive streak of having played in 34 consecutive major tournaments. The 2015 PGA Championship winner joined the tour in 2008 and made his U.S. Open debut in 2011.

Day impressed in his very first U.S. Open outing in fact. He finished second only behind Rory McIlroy and went 8-under for the tournament held at the Congressional Country Club.
Day matched the performance a couple of years later as he finished T2 at U.S. Open 2013. He came close this time and finished just two strokes behind eventual champion Justin Rose.
