Justin Thomas Explains the Reason for His Split With Long Time Caddie Jimmy Johnson

Justin Thomas is one of the most well-known players on the PGA Tour. He recently he roped in a new caddie, Jim Mackay who was a course reporter for NBC Sports and Golf Channel. Moreover, previously Mackay was with Phil Mickelson for around 25 years as his caddie. Safe to say, he comes with tremendous experience in the job.
The exact reason for the change of caddie, however, was not revealed. Hence, fans speculated that there might be a fallout or injury issue with Jimmy Johnson. But nothing conclusive was known till Justin Thomas clarified with an update on his social media accounts.

Justin Thomas clarifies the reason for his split with Jimmy Johnson
Justin Thomas got in Jim “Bones” Mackay as his full-time caddie, and social media erupted with enthusiasm. However, there were a few concerns, as everyone wanted to know the reason behind Jimmy’s departure. And here is what JT said on his social media accounts to put an end to all the speculations.
“Jimmy and I had an incredible run of 6 years together, but we have agreed to go our separate ways. I 100% did not fire him, as Jimmy came to me after the Ryder Cup and told me he has decided to pursue other opportunities. And I have nothing but respect for Jimmy and his wife Jen, and I’ll always appreciate all the success and times we had together. I wish him all the best.”

JT clarified that there was no fallout or any kind of dispute between the two. Moreover, he also said that it was Jimmy’s decision, and he has not fired him.

Jimmy Johnson was the highest-paid caddie on the PGA Tour and accompanied JT for around six years. Meanwhile, JT now has roped in Jim Mackay, who has been with Thomas on three occasions. So it will be interesting to see how the duo go about doing their business this season.
