Rory McIlroy Reveals the Awkward Conversation He Had With Dustin Johnson

Rory McIlroy is currently competing in the CJ Cup, which is his first event of the 2021-22 PGA Tour season. Meanwhile, the Summit Club, Las Vegas, will host this event, and McIlroy will be hopeful of a better performance this season. Rory had a below-average season even after winning an event at the Wells Fargo Championship in May.
However, after that, there was no real success for Rory. He struggled to get past the finish line at events where he was in contention. Moreover, he just had one top 10 finish in the majors in 2021. Furthermore, he even dropped out of the top 15 in the World Ranking for the first time since 2009. But thankfully, he is currently back to No. 14.

Rory McIlroy explains the embarrassing situation he faced with Dustin Johnson
During the pre-round press conference of the CJ Cup, a journalist asked Rory about the 2020-21 PGA Tour season and enquired about the difficulty level. Hence, McIlroy, while explaining this, he talked about the conversation he had with Dustin Johnson on Wednesday morning while having breakfast.
“I said, Oh, are you going to start in Maui [at the Sentry Tournament of Champions] like you usually do? He said I’m not in. I was like, Oh, sorry,” said McIlroy. Furthermore, he continued, “[But] there you go, DJ’s the second-ranked player in the world, and he didn’t win on tour [in 2021]. It just shows you how tough it is.”
