2019 Wimbledon champion Simona Halep has raised the bar in the women’s game. Her results in the last couple of seasons have been significant. She made her breakthrough during the 2013 season when she won six titles on tour and claimed a career-high ranking of 11 in the world.

The following year, in 2014, Simona made it to her first-ever final at the French Open. During the midst of that season, she came as high as being ranked No. 2 in the world. In the next year, Halep registered her best performance at the US Open, making it to the semi-final. In 2017, she made it to her second semi-final at Roland Garros and ended the year as the world no. 1.

Recently, while speaking to Halep, she credited Romanian Tennis Federation president, Ion Tiriac for issuing fair advice in her career.

“One of them, which I remember every day, is to give my best today, to be better than yesterday. Mr. Tiriac gave it to me. Ion Țiriac supports me and comes to my matches when he can, talks to me about tennis, tries to understand me as I am emotional, why I have emotions in one match, why I can’t be 100% in another match. Simona reflected back on the coronavirus that shocked the world and her performance in the previous season.

She stated, “What can I take good after this pandemic: I spent more time at home with family and friends. The second thing is that I won two titles. One of the most important is the title from Rome, which I really wanted. I had put a lot of pressure on myself because I hadn’t won it yet. Once I won it, I feel fulfilled that I have that trophy.”
