Simona Halep Reveals Why She Isn’t Interested in Becoming a Coach After Retirement

World No. 2 Romania’s Simona Halep is one of the most talented women’s tennis players today. However, in a recent revelation, the 29-year-old suggested that she’s uncertain about being a good coach after retirement.
Coaching certainly requires more than just knowledge of how to play the sport. That is why Halep believes that she can teach tennis well but doesn’t know she can coach the same.
“I like communication, even if sometimes I don’t communicate well enough. I could be a good teacher, but I don’t know if I could be a good coach,” Simona said. (All quotes are translated via Google Translate)

The biggest reason for her not being clear is because of her impatience. A coach rather helps the player contain his/her weaknesses and not otherwise. The 2-time Grand Slam champion is more of a tennis player than a coach.
She explained, “I don’t have patience with myself either, I don’t know how it could be with other athletes and, as I said earlier, I don’t like to analyze tennis, I like to play it and feel it.”
Unquestionably, the former World No. 1 knows her way around a tennis court. But at the 2020 French Open, she failed in her bid to become the top player as she lost in the fourth-round to Polish wonder girl and eventual champion Iga Swiatek.

“The fact that you play with a favorite gives you a relaxation. So was I. I think the pressure is strictly on the favorite and that’s why she happens to win an opponent around the 100th place,” the Romanian claimed.

Simona does not like to plan in tournaments. She feels that every match is equally important, despite the level of the tournament. Halep concluded, “If you think about the next matches, you might lose before.”
