Simone Biles Begins Journey to Overcome ‘Twisties’ Fears, Resumes Training

Simone Biles is widely regarded as the best gymnast in the world; Her impressive medal tally is proof of the same. All together, Biles has a total of 32 Olympic and World Championship Medals.

Through her stunning performances, she has proved her supremacy in the sport. Notably, Biles is also known for performing tricks and flips that no other gymnast dare attempt.

Even though she has taken a break from professional gymnastics, Biles keeps practicing all her tricks. Recently, she shared a video on her Instagram, where she can be seen performing some flips with ease.

Is Biles ready to return?

Biles opted out of the individual events at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics back in September 2021. Biles had a severe case of the “twisties” and she didn’t want to risk her life for the performance. She also stated that mentally, she was in a really bad place.

Hence, she decided to take a break from professional gymnastics, to focus on her mental health. Her decision was lauded by many, as it encouraged many other athletes to prioritize their own well-being over success.

Even though she isn’t competing right now, Biles does spend time in the gym, practicing regularly. She often shares videos and clips of her sessions over her social media.

Recently, she shared stories via her Instagram where she could be spotted practicing. Biles was seen doing some outstanding flips with perfect ease.

“Did some flips the other day, just to make sure,” posted the 24-year-old.

Simone Biles earlier revealed that if anyone ever told her she would walk away from the Olympics with only 2 medals, she would have cried. But when she actually did, she was just glad that she made it through.

Biles mentioned that more than her medals, she is proud of the lesson she taught the world in Tokyo.

“Most definitely the lesson that I gave the world in Tokyo…has brought real good attention to mental health and the awareness that it brings,” Biles said.

Biles brought the taboo topic of mental health to the forefront, starting a global conversation. This encouraged many other athletes to speak up and bring attention to the topic that was in dire need of the spotlight.
